iRiver wave touchscreen phone officially launches

iRiver is perhaps best known for its quirky media players, but has been showing off a concept phone at recent trade shows. Well, it’s a concept no more, with the iRiver wave slated for an official release.
If looks are important to you, the wave is up there with the best of them - a touchscreen handset packed into a sleek, metallic case. As you’ll expect from iRiver, it’s a media-playing monster, with video streaming on a large screen that flips effortlessly from horizontal to vertical viewing. And as this is initially launching in the Korean market, an electronic dictionary is inevitably shoe horned in. along with FM radio and handwriting recognition, while Wi-Fi and card expansion are a couple of slightly more useful additions. But where’s that digital TV?
The wave launches in Korea in March 2009 and right now is very much geared to the Korean market (right down to compatibility with a regional music download service). But iRiver products do have a habit of hitting the UK, so you never now. But we can probably do without that dictionary.
