Zune software to land on Windows Mobile devices

Microsoft’s Zune software will soon be reaching Windows Mobile Devices according to the company’s CEO Steve Ballmer.

Ballmer revealed that “Zune software will also be ported to and be more important not just with the hardware but on the PC, on Windows Mobile Devices etc”.

This strategic move looks set to strengthen its presence within the portable devices market, especially in the wake of the recently announced Android-based G1.

As Zune software prepares to break from its media player hub, it adds further fuel to the possibility of a Microsoft smartphone, despite steering well clear from the phone market.

Microsoft have not hinted what to expect when the software reaches the Windows Mobile based devices and PC’s, but thoughts of a Microsoft mobile phone have us momentarily sidetracked.
