Qik comes to BlackBerry handsets

If you’re still looking for reasons to buy a BlackBerry, maybe the newly-announced availability of Qik for the smartphone will push you nearer to your local phone store.
What’s Qik you ask? Well, it’s an application that allows you to stream live video from your handset to Qik.com, social networks or to blogs and websites. Just think, we can all share that daily commute or more interestingly, that gig you’re not supposed to be filming, free of charge.
Before all you BlackBerry owners get over-excited, it’s worth mentioning that version 1.0 only works with the Pearl 8120 and 8130, along with the BlackBerry Bold. Compatibility with other devices is said to follow.
But it is one in the eye for the iPhone - no sign of Qik heading to that particular platform in the near future, although that seems to be down to Apple’s unwillingness to allow onto its app store rather than any significant technical hurdles.
