Facebook to launch music streaming service?

As the application haven that is Facebook embarks on embracing the digital music servicing world, its search continues for the perfect partner to duet with on its latest release.

Plans are afoot to seek help from a partner in audio crime who already has the issue of licensing sewn up, so it can start deploying music to users quicker than you can graffiti on your mates wall. Names in the pot include, iLike (who already provide one of the most popular applications on the site) Imeem, LaLa and Rhapsody.

If ever there was any more proof needed in its harbouring ambitions of digital music download domination, it need only look across to their elder social network statesman MySpace who has recently just announced racking up their billionth song download.

To put it into perspective, iTunes took almost three years to get a billion song downloads, whereas MySpace, who offers free streaming, did it within days of launch.

Unlike Facebook, MySpace Music chose to share its venture with music labels who grab a portion of the stream profits, clearly showing that downloading music while having a sheep thrown at you is music to the ears of social network users and those profit hungry record execs.
